Allyson Asteraceae

This is a repository for the everyday things I find interesting and inspiring - including but not limited to science, crafts, art, nature, and food. Unless otherwise noted, all of the photos were taken by me.

I also keep a second blog about women scientists. Check it out: http://sheblindeduswithscience.tumblr.com

  • Look at all that sedimentation.
Yesterday I realized that I needed more data for part of my project so I got in my (still rental) car and drove around taking lots of photos of things. This was probably one of the more interesting ones.
I’m standing on a concrete channel that is meant to move stormwater. On this part of the channel, the water flow slows down so much that the dirt it was carrying sinks to the ground leaving behind a pile of mud when the channel dries out. Over time plants have grown on top of the mud on top of the concrete. The systems are not really supposed to do this, but I’m not sure if this sort of sediment buildup is a bad thing.
Also, I love my new winter rubber boots.
